What a truly wild ride the last year has been. There have been so many things happening in the world, we want to take a moment to acknowledge some changes that were made to the Barkly platform over the last year. Then, we’ll look ahead to where we are headed into the new year.
Recap of 2020
From the beginning, we’ve been dedicated to bringing the best service to our customers and your pets through leading technology and devoted caretakers. Six years ago, we started our dog walking business on the East Coast operating in just four cities: DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York. Over the past year, we’ve expanded our pet care services nationwide!
Additionally, we launched a new version of our platform: Barkly Pro. Barkly Pro is a membership program that allows our dog walkers and pet care professionals to set their own earnings and keep 100% of their services (minus transaction fees). If a pet care professional earns more than $100 in a month, they are charged a membership flat fee of $8.50. If they earn less than $100 in a month, the app is completely free to use.
You can read more about how Barkly allows dog walkers to manage their own business in our interview with Bad Credit .
Along with our platform changes and nationwide expansion, we also joined the Metamorphosis family of brands that includes The Anxious Pet, Great Pet Care, Great Pet Media, Pawprint, Muttropolis, Sanavet Laboratories, and the Dogs Of Instagram Community.
As part of a larger family of brands, we’re now able to offer our customers unique discounts, products, and content to help pet parents make the most of every day with their furry family members. We are also now able to offer Barkly walkers new opportunities to earn money while still working with pets and their owners on behalf of other brands. Anyone interested in becoming an affiliate with The Anxious Pet, may do so by filling out this form.
Looking ahead to 2021
It’s without a doubt, the pandemic has had a huge impact on the dog walking and pet care industry. With social distancing, and shelter-in-place restrictions, many dog walkers have been without work for many months now.
The good news is that recovery is well on its way in this new year. While we may not see a total rebound in walk numbers overnight, we can expect walk requests to pick up as cities begin to reopen. It’s a good idea for pet caretakers to prepare business to pick up by updating their availability and sharing their walker profile online so new customers can get to know them. We still advise all walkers to adhere to our COVID-19 guidance on all walks.
As we continue to monitor the state of the pandemic, our team will be adjusting our platform as it makes sense to fit the demands of the industry. Stay tuned for more news on new app updates and features coming soon!
