  • The Trump White House to Remain Pet-Less: Pet News Roundup

    by David Comiskey

This week in Pet News we learn of the lengths homebuyers go to ensure their pets are comfortable at home. Meanwhile, one home remains pet-less, breaking years of tradition  – The White House.

White House Vacancy – ‘Top Dog’

President Trump has no plans to welcome a furry sidekick into the Oval Office anytime soon.  According to a spokesperson for Melania Trump, “the first family is still getting settled so there are no plans (of getting a pet) at this time.” Should President Trump not get a dog, he would be the first in over a century to not have one. The last president who didn’t have a dog was William McKinley who served from 1897 to 1901. President McKinley did have several cats, however.

New Home? Make it a Dog House

For everyone else besides the Trump family, we’re really just guests in our dogs’ homes, according to a study published by Suntrust Mortgages last week. The study found that 33% percent of millennial homebuyers base their new home decision on their dog’s needs above anything else. Both spouses and children factored in lower than dogs for these homebuyers at 25% and 19%, respectively.
